Aged five, Sophie told her friend’s mum that she was going to win the Tour de France. It was only once she was 21 that she actually acted on this statement. Turning up to her first university club ride, she was all ‘no gear, no idea’ on a hybrid with rubbing brakes and a rucksack. To her credit, she hung on to the back for the 23 mile loop and even came back for more the following week. Sophie took up competitive cycling almost immediately afterwards and climbed from 4th to 2nd category in a single season. In 2015, Sophie qualified for the UCI World Tour TT final on a road bike, and went to compete in Denmark for Great Britain. Sophie has been picked up as a rider with future potential and is looking forward to going faster than ever in 2016 with the support of Team SSLL and their sponsors.
